Screenwriter Russell T Davies has spoken about the profound grief he experienced following the death of his husband, Andrew Smith, from an aggressive brain tumor.

Speaking on the "On the Marie Curie Couch" podcast, Davies recounted the devastating impact of Smith's passing in September 2018. The couple had been together for 20 years and married in 2012.

Davies, known for his work on "Doctor Who," "It's a Sin," and "Tip Toe," described the difficulty of caring for his husband during his illness. He stated he would have endured the challenges for another 50 years without complaint.

The diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme, a malignant brain tumor, came as a shock. Davies recalled that Smith initially struggled to remember the specific type of cancer after a doctor's appointment, only later identifying it from a note left by a nurse. Davies then researched the diagnosis, which revealed the severity of the condition.
