Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult have reportedly both auditioned for the role of James Bond, emerging as late contenders for the coveted part. The British actors, known for their roles in DC Studios' Batman and Lex Luthor franchises respectively, are surprise additions to the list of stars who have auditioned for director Denis Villeneuve.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson and Hoult tested for the role in London last month, joining other hopefuls such as Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Josh O'Connor. Pattinson has previously collaborated with Villeneuve on the upcoming Dune 3.
The news of Pattinson and Hoult's auditions comes as a surprise, as recent reports suggested that O'Connor had secured the role. The Crown star was believed to be on the shortlist of candidates to play 007, and a recent report from The Sun indicated that O'Connor had won the role after successfully navigating the final stages of auditions with Amazon MGM Studios. The publication cited a castmate from O'Connor's play, Golden Boy, who allegedly revealed the news after celebratory drinks.
O'Connor himself has called the speculation "very bizarre," telling the BBC that being considered for the role is "extraordinary" and a "pinch me moment," but declined to comment further on the rumors.
Despite the speculation surrounding O'Connor, other actors remain in contention. According to Ladbrokes odds, Jack Lowden is currently the front-runner at 4/6, followed by Callum Turner at 11/4, with O'Connor at 8/1. Lowden, however, has expressed that his future career plans lean more towards directing than acting.
Turner has reportedly quit the film company he co-founded with his wife, Dua Lipa, potentially signaling a focus on securing the 007 job. Casting for the next James Bond is expected by December, with filming for the next movie potentially beginning in 2027.
