Reality television personalities Janey Smith and Roger Hawe, known for their appearance on the ITV show "My Mum, Your Dad," have announced their engagement. The couple met on the dating series three years ago, and shared the news on Friday, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.

Smith revealed the engagement on Instagram, posting a photograph of the couple along with the caption, "Dreams do come true … x." A subsequent image offered a view of Hawe's proposal, which involved his dog wearing a custom collar that read, "Will you marry my daddy?"

"My Mum, Your Dad," which aired for two seasons before its discontinuation in 2024, featured adult children encouraging their single parents to find love. Smith appeared on the show with her son Will, while Hawe was nominated by his daughter Jess. The show saw parents living together in a country house while their children observed and participated in matchmaking efforts.

Hawe's journey on the show highlighted his past as a widower. He shared that his first wife, Joanne, passed away after a melanoma skin cancer diagnosis that spread to her brain. He described his grief and residual resentment towards the disease that took her life, but expressed confidence that she would have supported his decision to seek companionship on the show.

Smith, a single mother, had previously experienced trust issues and a tendency to push people away after a long period of dating difficulties. Both Smith and Hawe have since expressed gratitude for the show, calling it "the best thing anybody could have done for them" in 2024.

The engagement follows a recent health scare for Smith, who was hospitalized and diagnosed with a ruptured appendix, leading to a significant infection that required a week-long hospital stay. The couple’s success on "My Mum, Your Dad" has been noted, with Hawe telling the Daily Mail's Weekend Magazine that their connection felt like a "perfect storm," bringing together two individuals who were previously lost souls. He added that he never anticipated finding a life partner through the show and that waking up without dread has been a positive change.

Smith also expressed her desire for marriage, noting that she has fulfilled her goals of having children and being married, with singing remaining a passion.
