Prince George, the elder son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, has turned 13. The milestone birthday was marked with the release of a new portrait taken by photographer Matt Porteous.
William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, shared the photograph on social media with the caption, “Happy 13th Birthday, George! 🎉” The image shows Prince George in a dark suit and white button-down shirt, smiling at the camera.
In addition to the portrait, the couple also released a video clip of Prince George at the beach. The footage shows him climbing on rocks and playing with his brother and the family dogs.
Prince George Alexander Louis was born on July 22, 2013, at St Mary's Hospital in London. His mother, the Princess of Wales, has previously spoken about the challenges of bringing a newborn home, particularly the logistics of transferring him from a swaddle to a car seat under intense public scrutiny.
This September, Prince George will begin his studies at Eton College, an institution attended by both his father and his uncle, Prince Harry.
