The magical sisters are back as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles in "Practical Magic 2," which opened nationwide in theaters on Friday, September 11.

This sequel arrives nearly three decades after the original "Practical Magic," based on Alice Hoffman's 1995 novel of the same name, first hit screens in 1998. The new film, directed by Susanne Bier and written by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett, and Kelly Marcel, adapts Hoffman's 2021 novel "The Book of Magic." Set 25 years after the first movie, the sequel sees Sally (Bullock) and Gillian (Kidman) Owens confronting a new family crisis that requires their magical abilities.

In "Practical Magic 2," Sally is now a mother to two daughters, Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams). The daughters uncover the family's magical legacy and realize they may possess powers of their own. The cast also features Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing returning as the eccentric aunts, alongside Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña.

While "Practical Magic 2" is currently exclusive to movie theaters, it is expected to become available for home viewing later this year. As a Warner Bros. release, the film will eventually stream on HBO Max. Warner Bros. typically releases its mid-budget films on premium video-on-demand about a month after their theatrical debut, suggesting a digital release for "Practical Magic 2" could occur around mid-October 2026.

The streaming debut on HBO Max is anticipated to follow approximately two-and-a-half months after the theatrical release, potentially around late November or early December 2026. However, Warner Bros. has varied its release patterns, and the film could arrive on streaming sooner, perhaps in time for Halloween.

Subscriptions for HBO Max start at $10.99 per month for ad-supported viewing, while an ad-free plan costs $18.49 per month. Discounted bundles including Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max are also available, with pricing at $19.99 per month with ads and $32.99 per month without ads.

For those eager to watch "Practical Magic 2" as soon as possible, attending a theatrical screening remains the primary option. The original "Practical Magic" (1998) is currently available for streaming on HBO Max for subscribers.
