Peter Cullen, the iconic voice behind Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise and the melancholic Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, has died. Cullen's distinctive voice brought to life the heroic Autobot leader in the original television series and subsequent Hollywood films, earning him widespread recognition.

His portrayal of Optimus Prime was deeply influenced by his older brother, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. His brother advised him to play the character as "a real hero, don't be a Hollywood hero," suggesting a strength found in gentleness rather than aggression. This advice resonated with Cullen, shaping his approach to the character's serious moments.

Cullen continued to share a portion of his earnings from the Optimus Prime role with his brother until his brother's passing. The actor received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2011 for outstanding performer in an animated program for his work as Optimus Prime. He was further honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Children's & Family Emmy Awards in 2023.

Beyond his most famous role, Cullen's extensive career included voicing Monterey Jack in "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers." He was also a prominent voice actor in 1980s and 90s animated series, lending his talents to characters in "Spider-Man," "Donkey Kong," "Alvin & the Chipmunks," "Dungeons & Dragons," "My Little Pony," "Duck Tales," and "Gummi Bears."
