Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles band Wings will be celebrated with a new self-titled anthology, the group’s catalogue reissued across vinyl, CD, Blu-ray and digital formats more than 40 years after the band’s breakup.
Formed in 1971 by McCartney with his late wife Linda McCartney and guitarist Denny Laine, Wings rose from McCartney’s search for musical camaraderie after the end of The Beatles and went on to record seven studio albums and six No. 1 singles during a roughly decade-long run. The anthology is billed as a survey of the music McCartney made after the Beatles dissolved and includes photographs that show him alongside Linda and Laine. Linda McCartney died of cancer in 1998 at age 56; Laine died in 2023.
The release of the Wings collection follows a flurry of Beatles-related announcements from the band’s estate and rights holders. A newly compiled Beatles album, to be called Anthology 4, is expected to feature previously unreleased demos and sessions, and a remastered version of the original Anthology documentary — rebranded as The Beatles’ Story, In Their Own Words — is slated to stream on Disney+ alongside a new ninth episode of the documentary that will include behind-the-scenes footage of the surviving members.
Executives have also put together a box set combining Anthology 1, 2 and 3 with the new Anthology 4; the four-disc collection is described as containing 191 tracks and is scheduled for release in November. The original Beatles producer George Martin is cited in promotional material as having remastered Anthology 1, 2 and 3 for the set.
The Beatles’ recent announcements followed social-media teasers that prompted speculation among fans. The band’s official channels posted a series of images earlier this year with the numbers one through four, sparking online anticipation that culminated in confirmation of the new material and the remastered documentary.
The wave of releases coincides with other projects linked to the Fab Four. A multi-film biopic series focusing individually on each member of the Beatles has drawn casting announcements: Harris Dickinson is set to portray John Lennon, Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn will portray George Harrison, and reports say Paul Mescal has also signed on to appear in the project. The films are scheduled for release in April 2028 and have the support of McCartney, Ringo Starr and the estates of Lennon and Harrison.
McCartney, now in his eighties, remains active in music and entertainment. He makes a cameo in the upcoming Spinal Tap sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which opens in September. The Wings anthology and the Beatles releases are part of a broader effort by rights holders to revisit and repackage the legacy of one of popular music’s most influential acts while also spotlighting the post-Beatles careers that followed.
Details on the Wings anthology’s track list, exact release date and any accompanying archival material were not disclosed in the initial announcement. Representatives for McCartney and the Beatles catalogue managers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Wings emerged from a period of reinvention for McCartney after the Beatles’ breakup, blending pop craft with experimentation and navigating frequent lineup changes and mixed critical reception while sustaining strong commercial success. The anthology is being presented as an opportunity to reassess that decade of work and to place it in the wider arc of McCartney’s career that spans nearly six decades onstage and in the studio.
