Patsy Kensit, 58, recently displayed her abdominal muscles in a fuchsia bikini. The post emerged after broadcaster Sara Cox shared an anecdote about Kensit's composed reaction to a critical remark made about her on television years ago.
Kensit, an actress known for her role in EastEnders, posted the image over the weekend, coinciding with warm weather. She accessorized her swimwear with blue tinted sunglasses, and captioned her post by noting the ongoing heatwave.
Cox, preparing to host the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, reflected on her three-decade career and the evolution of the media landscape. She recalled an incident from the mid-1990s when, as a presenter on Channel 4's "The Girlie Show," she nominated Kensit as "W***** of the Week." During the segment, Cox made a disparaging comment about Kensit's appearance.
Following the on-air jibe, Cox encountered Kensit at a backstage event. Cox described Kensit's interaction as "friendly and classy," suggesting Kensit either hadn't seen the TV segment or chose to handle the situation with grace. Cox expressed lifelong respect for Kensit's response.
Cox stated that she would not make such a comment today but acknowledged the role "The Girlie Show" played in launching her broadcasting career. She also addressed the "ladette" label associated with her and other female presenters of the era, asserting that while they enjoyed themselves, they were also ambitious and conscientious.
Cox is set to take over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show soon, following the departure of Scott Mills. Mills is reportedly suing the BBC after his dismissal, which occurred after allegations surfaced regarding serious sexual offenses against a minor. Cox and Mills have been colleagues at the BBC for approximately three decades.
