As "Outer Banks" concludes its five-season run, the cast is reflecting on seven years of filming the popular Netflix series. The show's final season sees the Pogues and Kooks embark on one last global adventure to find a mythical crown with resurrection properties, a significant shift from the treasure-hunting teenagers fans first met in Season 1.
Despite the show's evolution from a group of young adults evading law enforcement to seekers of magical artifacts, the cast says the experience has been life-changing and filled with unforgettable moments. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Madison Bailey, and Carlacia Grant are all reflecting on their time with the series.
Madelyn Cline, who portrays Sarah Cameron, recalled humorous on-set moments, particularly during chase sequences. "I think a lot of the scenes I will look back and remember fondly, but also, when we were shooting them I was thinking, ‘What are we doing?'" she said. "Like when we’re running away, just running, but very Scooby-Doo style."
While fans may associate the show with songs like "Left Hand Free" by alt-J, which was featured in Stokes' voiceover describing the show's setting as "paradise on earth," the cast has a different soundtrack. Drew Starkey, who plays Sarah's brother Rafe Cameron, pointed to Khruangbin as the band that will always evoke memories of filming. "That band, it was kind of throughout. Just because we were listening to them [all the time]," Starkey said. Jonathan Daviss added that he and Starkey attended a Khruangbin concert in Charleston during Season 1.
Madison Bailey shared that her most enduring memory involves the show's boat sequences, which often presented challenges. "I know that I will always look back on the boat days — specifically me, it’s very specific to this show —and those are the good and the bad days," Bailey said. "We’re on a boat, but then there’s so many other things happening… I’ll look back fondly and also like, what the heck, we were just fish out of and in water."
"Outer Banks" Season 5 is set to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 20. The first four seasons are currently available for streaming on the platform.
