The cast of Netflix's "Outer Banks" is aware that some fans have drawn comparisons between their series and The CW's "Riverdale," a phenomenon they've playfully termed "Riverdale-ification," referring to shows that stray significantly from their original premises. However, the "Outer Banks" stars expressed relief that their show never ventured into the more outlandish territories that "Riverdale" did in its later seasons.

In a discussion about the upcoming fifth and final season, cast members Chase Stokes and Jonathan Daviss shared their perspective. Stokes joked about avoiding the kind of plot twists seen in "Riverdale," such as characters being hit by comets or traveling back in time.

Daviss recounted a conversation with actress Camila Mendes, who starred alongside him in "Do Revenge." Mendes described the extreme plot points in "Riverdale," including characters developing superpowers and one even possessing slime powers. Daviss noted that such developments made him feel his own show's plotlines were relatively grounded in comparison.

While "Riverdale" explored alternate realities, supernatural elements like witches and ghosts, and even characters gaining superpowers, "Outer Banks" has largely centered its drama on the search for fictional relics, such as the "Blue Crown." The show's most recent significant plot point involved attempting to revive a character, which ultimately did not succeed, keeping the series within a more contained narrative.

Madelyn Cline, another star of "Outer Banks," reflected on memorable moments from the show's run, admitting that while some scenes were enjoyable to film, others prompted her to question the characters' actions. She specifically recalled chase sequences that felt reminiscent of "Scooby-Doo" cartoons, where characters would narrowly escape pursuers in elaborate, somewhat comical ways.

Despite the absurdity of some situations, Cline stated that she looks back on these moments fondly and appreciates the physical demands of filming, which she noted helped her stay in shape.

Both "Outer Banks" and "Riverdale" are available for streaming on Netflix.
