Paramount+ has not officially renewed Dexter: Resurrection for a second season, but multiple indicators suggest the revival is likely to return.
The 10-episode season concluded Friday, Sept. 5, and produced strong early streaming results and broadly positive reviews. The premiere drew 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days, Variety reported, and critics and many fans hailed the season as the franchise’s best installment since the show’s first four years. Michael C. Hall returned to the title role, joined by Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan and a supporting cast that includes Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf and a returning David Zayas.
Per Deadline, Paramount Global canceled the Dexter prequel Original Sin and commissioned a writers’ room for a second season of Resurrection, a move commonly taken when a network or streamer wants to build scripts quickly but has not completed budget approvals. Industry sources told Deadline that a formal renewal remains contingent on budget sign-off. The timeline for a decision has not been disclosed by Paramount+.
The season’s finale also set up a likely antagonist for a subsequent season without resolving all storylines, leaving narrative room for continuation. Reviewers and viewers noted the show leaned into elements that made the original Dexter compelling: a tight central performance by Hall, a humanizing counterpoint in Alcott’s Harrison, and a cast of supporting players and cameo appearances from the original series. Late-era installments of Dexter previously drew criticism for missteps in storytelling; Resurrection was widely described as a marked improvement, though not uniformly praised as equal to the earliest seasons.
If Paramount+ greenlights another season, industry reporting and scheduling patterns suggest a possible premiere in spring or summer 2026. The streamer has varied renewal-to-return windows; for example, another Paramount+ series, Landman, announced a season-two pickup roughly two months after that season concluded. No official production timeline or premiere date for Dexter: Resurrection has been announced.
The first season is available to stream on Paramount+ Premium. As of the season’s finale, the platform’s standard ad-free tier is priced at $12.99 per month, and the service was offering a limited-time annual discount for new subscribers. Paramount+ continues to offer a seven-day free trial for new customers through participating partners, including Amazon. Subscribers may also add Paramount+ Premium through Prime Video or Hulu for an additional fee.
Paramount+ and the series’ producers did not immediately respond to requests for comment on potential renewal timing or budget discussions. For now, the series’ commercial performance, critical reception and the reported formation of a writers’ room are the clearest public signals that Dexter: Resurrection could return, though a formal renewal remains pending official confirmation and budget approval.
