Nicole Kidman's appearance on the cover of British Vogue's September issue has ignited a flurry of online discussion, primarily focusing on the extensive airbrushing applied to her image.
Many Instagram users expressed surprise and disappointment, with several asserting that the heavily edited photograph bore little resemblance to the 59-year-old Australian actress. Comments ranged from "Is this the AI version of Nicole??? I don't see the resemblance as this is a totally different woman?" to "She looks AI."
Some commenters suggested the image was "airbrushed within an inch of its life," with one stating, "If the name of the woman in the photograph hadn't been emblazoned on the magazine cover, I never would have realised it was actress Nicole Kidman."
The extensive retouching led some to compare Kidman to other celebrities, including Tara Reid, Jennifer Lawrence, Heidi Montag, Kate McKinnon, and Joanna Lumley, rather than the Oscar-winning actress herself.
However, not all reactions were critical. Many fans praised the cover, with comments such as "Nicole! Wow you are stunning" and "Amazing. She has never looked better." Others defended the creative direction, with one user writing, "She looks fabulous. It's called art, style and creativity."
In her accompanying interview with British Vogue, Kidman reflected on navigating life changes. "I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now," she admitted. "You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it's all going to be like and then it's… not. You have to adjust. You adapt."
Kidman expressed a commitment to moving forward with optimism, despite facing the unknown. She stated that while she once felt "very fearful and deeply vulnerable," she ultimately chose to "just go forward with an enormous amount of hope."
With her 60th birthday approaching next year, Kidman shows no signs of slowing down. She has made a point of working with more than 20 female directors since 2017 to address the industry's gender gap, saying, "I just think there are some people who are wired to work. I just am."
