A new episode of HBO's superhero drama "Lanterns" is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, September 13, at 9 p.m. ET. The series, which offers a new take on the Green Lantern comic books, is available on both HBO and the HBO Max streaming service.
"Lanterns" follows Hal Jordan, portrayed by Kyle Chandler, as he mentors John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. The current storyline involves a murder mystery in the rural town of Rushville, where the pair discover a Manhunter hiding within the community. The previous episode revealed that Zoe, a character played by Poorna Jagannathan, is the Manhunter.
The first season of "Lanterns" will consist of eight episodes, with new installments premiering each Sunday until October 4, 2026. The season premiere, titled "Pilot," was released on August 16, followed by "Trust Fall" on August 23, "OutKast" on August 30, and "The Weenie" on September 6.
Subsequent episodes are slated for release on the following dates: Episode 6 on September 20, Episode 7 on September 27, and the season finale, Episode 8, on October 4.
"Lanterns" is an HBO original production. Viewers can access the series through an HBO subscription or an HBO Max subscription. HBO Max offers plans starting at $10.99 per month with ads, and an ad-free experience for $18.49 per month. Discounted bundles including HBO Max, Disney+, and Hulu are also available, priced at $19.99 per month with ads and $32.99 per month without ads.
While the possibility of a second season for "Lanterns" remains undecided, Aaron Pierre's portrayal of John Stewart is confirmed to be part of the upcoming Superman sequel, "Man of Tomorrow," expected next summer. A trailer for "Lanterns" is available for viewing.
