Morgan Wallen accidentally threw a bat that struck the wife of former Major League Baseball star Jose Bautista during a walkout at his concert Friday night at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, video posted to social media shows.
The incident occurred as Wallen, performing on his "I'm The Problem" tour, brought Bautista onstage for his signature walkout. After Bautista handed Wallen a bat, the country star mimicked a bat flip, took a swing and then tossed the bat aside. A clip posted to Neisha Bautista’s Instagram story shows her recording the moment on her phone, yelling after being hit and appearing to drop the device. Someone nearby is heard asking, "S---, you okay?" and she replies that she is fine. Jose Bautista can be seen placing his hands over his mouth in apparent disbelief.
Representatives for Wallen and Bautista did not immediately provide further comment. There were no immediate reports of injury. The appearance in Toronto was one of several in which Wallen has invited former baseball figures to join his stage walkouts; previous guests on the tour have included Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.
Wallen played high school baseball as a pitcher at Gibbs High School in Tennessee and has incorporated baseball-themed walkouts into this tour. Bautista, a six-time All-Star, played 15 major league seasons and hit 344 career home runs while playing for eight franchises. He is best known for a decade with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he ranks among the franchise leaders in home runs and led Major League Baseball in homers in 2010 and 2011. Bautista was part of Blue Jays teams that reached the American League Championship Series in 2016 and 2017.
Wallen’s "I'm The Problem" tour was scheduled to conclude this weekend with back-to-back shows in Edmonton. Concertgoers and social media users posted reaction clips after the Toronto incident, and the video on Neisha Bautista’s Instagram story circulated widely online.
No officials at Rogers Centre reported any injuries connected to the incident, and neither Wallen nor the Bautistas issued public statements beyond the social media clip as of Saturday morning.
