Millie Mackintosh recently celebrated four years of sobriety, a milestone she marked with a reflective post on Instagram. The 37-year-old shared a video montage featuring a cupcake with four candles and nature imagery, accompanied by the words "What boring feels like," in response to perceptions of sobriety.
In her post, Mackintosh acknowledged that a recent "big life change," alluding to her separation from husband Hugo Taylor, has brought past issues to the surface. She shared her journey of learning to process feelings rather than avoid them. "Celebrating 4 years sober. I feel so grateful... for the hope, the joy and the beauty that has come from the ashes of what I once thought was my life burning to the ground," she wrote. "Four years ago, I genuinely felt like my life was over..."
Mackintosh described the initial decision to stop drinking as daunting but ultimately the right choice, even though she couldn't foresee the positive outcomes. She credited her continued sobriety to her "sober community," honest conversations with friends, therapy, and the development of personal rituals like meditation and movement. She also emphasized the importance of self-compassion and consistently choosing sobriety and self-love daily.
"I want to keep this real: I absolutely do not have life figured out," Mackintosh stated. "I don’t have a life plan or a five-year plan. I don’t know exactly what comes next. But for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m moving out of survival mode and into something new..."
She expressed pride in her personal evolution and the courage it took to make a difficult decision four years prior. "And more than anything, I’m so, so thankful she did. Four years sober. And I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. Feel the fear and do it anyway."
Mackintosh and Taylor officially filed for divorce in February, after announcing their separation following seven years of marriage. The couple, who share daughters Sienna and Aurelia, were reportedly seeking a "clean break" while co-parenting. Their relationship history includes an on-again, off-again period spanning approximately 15 years, beginning when they first dated on "Made In Chelsea" in 2011. After an initial split that same year, they reunited in 2016.
Prior to their separation, Mackintosh and Taylor had spent several months renovating their family home, a project she documented, noting the significant time, energy, and patience involved. She described the process as a journey from early planning and decision-making to reaching a stage where the focus shifted to personalizing the space with art and cherished objects, making the house feel like a home.
