Michael Douglas, 81, and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 56, shared a family photograph on Instagram from a recent evening outing with their children, Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23. The couple, married since 2000, appeared to be on vacation in an undisclosed location when the picture was taken.

Douglas captioned the post, "A nice family evening! Hope you all have a wonderful and fun weekend ahead! Lots of love! MD." In the photo, Zeta-Jones is seen in a black one-shoulder dress, while Carys wears an elegant silk green gown. Dylan, who is also present, is the couple's elder child.

Carys, who graduated from Brown University in the past year with a degree in film and international relations, recently made her theater debut. She took on a role in Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull," which ran from June 20-27 at St. Lydia's in Brooklyn. A video shared on Instagram captured moments from her performance, and she was later seen signing autographs for attendees.

A friend of Carys told the Daily Mail that her parents are very proud of her achievements. Carys herself has spoken about her desire to pursue acting and performing arts. "I grew up doing theater, and I didn't study acting in school, but that's why I'm happy to be in such an informative arts space, so hopefully more of that," she told People magazine.

Reflecting on her upbringing in the public eye, Carys told Town & Country in 2018 that her parents help keep her grounded. "My parents do a really good job of reality-checking me and being like, 'Look around you. The life you have is extraordinary.'"

Zeta-Jones has previously discussed instilling good manners in her children. "There's nothing worse than a privileged kid without manners. I drilled it into them like boot camp," she said. "The teenage years... She knows she cannot roll her eyes at me, or huff and puff around me. I never did it to my mother, and she's not doing it to me."

Regarding her children potentially entering the acting profession, Zeta-Jones expressed in a 2021 interview on the Today show that while she and Michael Douglas would initially suggest other careers, they have witnessed their children's passion for the craft. She noted that Dylan and Carys have experience with theater camps and understand the realities of celebrity.

Zeta-Jones also mentioned that her children had a conversation with Michael Douglas about the challenges of following in famous parents' footsteps, acknowledging that they may need to prove themselves more and face comparisons. However, she stated that her children are not deterred and she is "excited to see whatever journey they happen to go on."
