Mel C has revealed that a dispute with Victoria Beckham over a hairstyle at the 1996 BRIT Awards nearly resulted in her expulsion from the Spice Girls. The incident occurred before the group had released any music and while they were under scrutiny within the industry.

Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Mel C, 52, described a situation where she removed her ponytail, a look that reportedly clashed with the band's established image. Her bandmates, including Beckham, criticized her for altering her appearance, leading Mel C to tell Beckham to "f**k off." This confrontation caused significant distress for Mel C, who feared she would "was going to lose everything" and had jeopardized her dreams of a music career.

The singer recalled waking up the next morning to her bandmates' disgust at her behavior. She explained that the group operated with a sense of internal policing to maintain their image. The incident at the BRIT Awards, where the group was a table with Lenny Kravitz, was perceived as a trivial matter by Mel C at the time, especially as the public was not yet aware of the Spice Girls. However, her bandmates and management, including Simon Fuller, viewed her actions as unprofessional and warned her that similar behavior would lead to her dismissal from the group.

Mel C stated that she was unaware of the severity of her actions until the subsequent confrontation. She expressed terror at the thought of losing the opportunity she had worked so hard for.

Mel C has previously expressed her desire for further Spice Girls reunions and has suggested headlining the Glastonbury Festival. Recently, rumors have circulated about a potential holographic reunion, similar to ABBA's Voyage show. Victoria Beckham has commented positively on the concept, while Mel C expressed a preference for live performances, citing potential venues like Glastonbury and the Las Vegas Sphere. She is currently embarking on a world tour to support her new album, her first in over two decades, and has recently performed with Mel B, performing "Spice Up Your Life."
