Megan Fox is slated to return for a sequel to the 2009 cult classic "Jennifer's Body," according to reports.
Director Karyn Kusama and writer Diablo Cody are also expected to be involved in the new project. It remains unclear if original co-star Amanda Seyfried will reprise her role.
"Jennifer's Body" follows a high school cheerleader, played by Fox, who becomes possessed by a succubus after a botched Satanic ritual performed by an indie rock band. She then begins to feed on her male classmates. Seyfried portrayed her best friend, Anita, who attempts to stop Jennifer.
The film, known for its violent and sexual content, was both a critical and commercial disappointment upon its 2009 release. However, it has since gained a significant following and is now regarded as a cult favorite, particularly among horror enthusiasts and feminists.
Fox has spoken about the personal toll the initial film's reception took on her. In a 2019 interview, she described experiencing a "genuine psychological breakdown" following the movie's release. Cody also reflected on the personal backlash she faced, stating that the professional failure led her to seek therapy.
Filming for the "Jennifer's Body" sequel is reportedly scheduled to begin in Vancouver in October.
The sequel could mark a significant career moment for Fox, who has taken on fewer acting roles in recent years. In 2024, she received Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress. Her recent acting credits include the 2024 sci-fi thriller "Subservience" and the Amazon Prime Video comedy series "Overcompensating."
Fox is widely recognized for her roles in the "Transformers" franchise and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
Meanwhile, Seyfried has had a successful year, featuring in the thriller "The Housemaid" and receiving critical acclaim for her role in "The Testament of Ann Lee." Cody's last writing project was "Lisa Frankenstein" in 2024.
