Megan Barton-Hanson posted a series of mirror selfies and beach photos from a holiday in Greece as the former Love Island contestant recounted how cosmetic surgery and later work in a strip club helped reshape her life and finances.

The 31-year-old shared the photos on her Instagram Story, appearing makeup-free in a colourful triangle bikini with matching thong bottoms, and captioned one image, "Dedicated the next seven days to tanning, training and munching all the Greek food." She was later pictured on the beach drinking cocktails.

On the We Need To Talk podcast with Paul Carrick Brunson, Barton-Hanson said she first underwent a double operation at age 19 — a rhinoplasty and breast augmentation — after being bullied at school for her nose and "sticky-out ears." She told the host the procedures were partly motivated by a desire to improve her earning potential at a time when she was working as a legal personal assistant and struggling financially.

"I'll be brutally honest — money," Barton-Hanson said on the podcast. She said she had considered glamour modelling and Page 3 work as a route to financial independence and decided to have surgeries in a single session because she disliked being put under anaesthesia multiple times. "I wanted my nose done, that was another thing from school kids would pick on," she added.

Barton-Hanson said the surgeries helped open opportunities on social media and beyond. She described building an audience on Instagram by posting increasingly revealing images, which she said led to growth in followers and opened new income streams. She told the podcast that six years after those early changes she had amassed around 1.4 million followers.

When Instagram income proved insufficient, Barton-Hanson said she took a job at a strip club to improve her finances. She said she was motivated in part by the contrast between being sexualised while working in an office and the prospect of being paid well and working for herself. "I was being sexualised by the trainee solicitors, the solicitors. The way they would look at me...so in my mind, if you're gonna sexualise me when I'm dressed in a pencil skirt and tights on minimum wage, I'm gonna go and be sexualised where I can make so much money and I can be my own boss," she said.

Barton-Hanson described her time working at the club as "really freeing," saying it gave her a sense of sisterhood and financial autonomy. She said the experience felt empowering after earlier periods of being ostracised and bullied.

Barton-Hanson rose to wider public attention as a contestant on the 2018 series of ITV's Love Island. Since then she has been open in interviews and on social media about cosmetic procedures she has undergone and about how those choices intersected with her career and personal life.

In recounting her past, Barton-Hanson linked decisions about her appearance to practical considerations as well as to reactions to bullying she experienced in school. Her comments reflect a wider discussion in entertainment and social media about the economic and emotional factors that drive some public figures to alter their appearance and to pursue work in adult entertainment.

Barton-Hanson's holiday posts follow her continued public presence on social media and in interviews, where she continues to discuss the personal history that preceded her television fame.
