Mary Rivera, an actress known for her role as Ned Leeds' Filipino grandmother in the 2021 blockbuster "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has died at the age of 82. Her death occurred in April following a stroke, according to a family member who spoke with TMZ.
Rivera was in a coma after the stroke, and her family made the decision to remove her from life support after medical professionals indicated a poor prognosis even if she were to regain consciousness. She died in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was subsequently cremated.
The actress was reportedly proud of her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. In a memorable scene, her character, referred to as "Lola" (grandmother in Tagalog), asks Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man to clear cobwebs from a ceiling, a request translated by Jacob Batalon's character, Ned Leeds. Rivera's sole credited role on her IMDB page is from "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
"Spider-Man: No Way Home," which starred Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon, was a significant commercial and critical success, grossing $1.9 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021.
Rivera is survived by her husband, Alejandro, her children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
