Marks & Spencer is set to make its debut at London Fashion Week, marking a significant step as the retailer joins the ranks of high-end designer brands on the international fashion calendar. The company's womenswear and menswear collections will be presented in September, appearing alongside established luxury names such as Burberry.

This move is intended to demonstrate to shareholders, shoppers, and a global audience that M&S has shed its former image and is now a fashion leader. Stuart Machin, M&S chief executive, described the event as a "special moment," highlighting that M&S fashion, a long-standing part of everyday life, will now be showcased on "fashion's global stage." Customers will be able to shop the featured collections both online and in M&S stores across the UK, as well as in key international markets.

The London Fashion Week appearance follows recent M&S catwalk events held this summer in Ibiza and at Silverstone. These events align with a new strategy focused on launching regular limited-supply clothing "drops," a tactic also employed by retailers like Inditex, the parent company of Zara, to drive growth.

Laura Weir, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, commented that M&S is "one of Britain's most recognised and trusted fashion names." She added that the brand's debut at LFW "brings together heritage, scale and contemporary style, and reflects the continued breadth and energy of British fashion."

While M&S has participated in standalone men's fashion week events previously, this will be its first appearance at the main London Fashion Week. Industry insiders view this as a strong indicator of confidence following a successful turnaround period for the company under the leadership of Mr. Machin and M&S chairman Archie Norman.
