Maisie Williams is drawing style inspiration from her on-screen mother, Sandra Bullock, during the press tour for the highly anticipated sequel, "Practical Magic 2." Williams, who plays Bullock's daughter Antonia Owens in the film, has recreated several of Bullock's memorable 1990s and 2000s red carpet looks, earning praise from the veteran actress.
During a recent photocall in London, Williams donned a black off-the-shoulder dress that Bullock previously wore to the 2006 premiere of her movie "Infamous." "My Antonia girl, you can raid Mama's closet anytime," Bullock commented on Instagram, sharing a compilation of Williams' outfits.
For the film's world premiere in Leicester Square, Williams opted for a custom Ellie Misner gown that mirrored a red carpet ensemble Bullock wore to the 1999 premiere of "Forces of Nature." Bullock had described her own style at the time as being in a "goth period," and Williams' satin dress, in a similar red hue and cut, paid homage to that era. Williams accessorized this look with a Roger Vivier satin clutch and a diamond choker.
Williams also paid tribute to a lace-trimmed floral dress that Bullock wore in the original "Practical Magic" film, choosing a similar style from Paul Smith for another promotional event.
Bullock commended Williams' stylist, Dino Bonačić, for his work in revitalizing these iconic looks. Bonačić revealed that he and Williams intentionally sought to draw from Bullock's past fashion moments. "I knew I wanted to pay homage to her film mother, who has epitomised the rebellious energy of the 1990s that Maisie oozes with herself," Bonačić stated.
"Practical Magic 2" continues the story of the Owens sisters, with Sandra Bullock reprising her role as Sally and Nicole Kidman returning as Gillian. They are joined by newcomers Maisie Williams as Antonia and Joey King as Kylie, portraying the next generation of the Owens family. Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip, who played younger versions of the sisters in the 1998 original, have been replaced in the sequel, which is set 25 years after the first film. The sequel is adapted from Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel, "The Book of Magic." The film is scheduled for release on September 11.
