The Mahrajan Festival, a new all-day outdoor event, is making its debut in London, aiming to serve as a significant cultural moment for the city's Arabic community. Held at Crystal Palace Bowl, the festival showcases a mix of established artists and emerging talents within the Arabic music scene.

Performers at the festival include Saint Levant, Dystinct, and Khaled. Artist Lella, who performs Egyptian Arabic rap, expressed her enthusiasm for connecting with a new audience. "I have never performed here before - when I perform abroad most of the people don't know me so they get to know me through the performance which I really love," she stated. Lella added that while not everyone may understand her lyrics, which are primarily in Egyptian Arabic, she is "so happy to be connecting with everyone."

For attendees like 24-year-old Mariam Azam, the festival represents a crucial step forward for Arabic representation in media and culture. "Growing up we didn't see ourselves in the media at all, and if we did it was never good representation," Azam said. "It's just nice to have something for us, especially in London." Azam described herself as having been "counting down the days" until the event.

The festival's organizers aim to create a space where Arabic culture is celebrated and visible, offering a platform for artists to reach new audiences and for community members to see themselves reflected in the cultural landscape. The event's success is seen by many as a positive indicator for the growth and recognition of Arabic arts and artists.
