Actress Lucy Davis has expressed her gratitude for the kindness she has received from the public following her announcement that she has incurable cancer. The star, known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the British sitcom The Office, shared on Wednesday that she is “overwhelmed” by the supportive messages.
Her father, actor Jasper Carrott, also spoke about the difficult time for their family. "This is a very difficult time for the whole family and we have been supporting her in every way possible since her diagnosis," Carrott told BBC News. "We are so grateful for all the support we have had over this trying time and we are very hopeful for her future being what she wants it to be."
Davis, who played the sympathetic receptionist Dawn in the Bafta-winning sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, received well wishes from co-stars and fans alike. Gervais posted a heart emoji in response to her update, while American version co-star Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly, praised Davis for her "beautiful post."
Fischer, who has also experienced cancer, wrote, "Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let's spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!"
Davis's career began with early roles in The Detectives and a 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Following her breakthrough in The Office, she went on to appear in films such as Shaun Of The Dead (2004) and Wonder Woman (2017), and played Hilda Spellman in the Netflix series The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. The actress's father, Robert Davis, also known as Jasper Carrott, is a well-known face on British television.
