Louis Tomlinson and his girlfriend, Zara McDermott, were recently seen together at England's World Cup semi-final match, marking a rare public outing for the couple. They were among a contingent of celebrity fans who traveled to the US city hosting the game to support England against Argentina.
Despite their presence, England was defeated by Argentina 2-1 in a dramatic second half. Tomlinson, a known football enthusiast, has been following England's World Cup campaign since its early stages.
The public appearance comes as McDermott has spoken about the challenges of their long-distance relationship. She admitted that she struggles with sleep when they are apart, attributing it to the psychological comfort of being with her partner. McDermott explained that her own work commitments often require her to travel back to the UK, even while Tomlinson is on tour or in the US.
"I would genuinely say my sleep situation, especially this last couple of weeks, has been beyond horrific," McDermott said in a recent YouTube video. "I was thinking the other day, this must be what it feels like when you're in the newborn trenches or when you have a child."
She described lying awake for entire nights without any sleep, feeling disoriented and missing Tomlinson's presence. "I'm so used to being in bed with my partner as well, we're always together, so when we're not together, and I'm filming somewhere, and I feel a bit discombobulated and I'm all feeling all over the shop, and then he's not there, and I sometimes just lose slight bearings of where I am and I don't have him with me."
McDermott contrasted this with her sleep when they are together, describing it as the "best sleep of my life." She suggested that being with her partner provides a sense of "psychological safety" that allows her to relax fully.
This outing follows a period where McDermott was the subject of a deepfake campaign and unfounded cheating rumors. The speculation arose after she was pictured receiving a platonic kiss on the cheek from Joey Essex as they left an event. McDermott and Essex appeared together on the latest series of ITV's "Cooking With The Stars."
A source close to Essex told The Sun that he and McDermott "grew close during filming and have become good friends. They got on really well but it's all very innocent. There's nothing romantic there between them."
