Influencer Lorna Luxe has disclosed that she did not possess a bank card or have any experience paying bills prior to the death of her husband, John Andrews, in February. Andrews passed away at age 64 after a battle with stage four adrenal cancer.
In her first interview since his passing, Luxe, 43, appeared on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast. She explained that her husband had managed all financial and practical matters throughout their 16-year marriage, a situation that left her unprepared for independent management. "He was very happy to do it for me," Luxe stated, "And so over those years, he just bit by bit managed all of these things to the point where all I had to do was get up and be me and just go about my day."
Luxe recounted that as her husband's health declined, he grew concerned about her ability to manage alone. "He really started to panic because he was like, 'well you don't even know how to pay. You don't even have your own bank card. You don't know how to do these things.' And he was really worried," she said. The days leading up to his death involved conversations about his fear that she would be in difficulty after he was gone due to her lack of practical knowledge.
Following Andrews' death, Luxe described a period of struggle as she began to sort through household bills and other financial matters. "I didn't really understand, didn't have a bank card. I think day two of John dying I had to order a bank card because I didn't have one," she recalled. She also shared an anecdote about attempting to pay a bill using her late husband's app on the third day after his death, only to be informed by the bank that she needed her own account.
Luxe continues to manage these responsibilities incrementally. "Bit by bit, bite-sized chunks each day, I'll open a letter and we'll deal with it," she said, adding that the tasks are not as daunting as they initially seemed.
She also spoke about experiencing "incredibly low moments" and particularly loneliness on weekends. Luxe noted that weekdays are often filled with business activities related to her work as an influencer, but weekends can be isolating if she has not made plans. "By Saturday afternoon, if I've not made plans, which I've started to do, I can feel and I'm like, 'what am I going to do? I need to make my tea, but I'm not a good cook,'" she shared, referencing how her husband previously handled such tasks.
Luxe and Andrews met when she was 25 and he was 64. They married shortly after and had been together for 16 years. Andrews, who had previously worked as a banker, left his job in 2023 to focus on his health and support his wife's career. Luxe had previously written that she believed they had many more years together, noting his parents' longevity, and expressed that she could not get used to the word "widow" or the reality of his absence.
