The second season of the Netflix comedy series "Leanne" concluded with its titular character, Leanne Morgan, seemingly finding a measure of peace after a tumultuous year, though the finale left open questions about her relationships and future.
Throughout Season 2, Leanne navigated romantic entanglements, including a relationship with a new beau, played by Tim Daly, and a regression of feelings for her ex-husband, portrayed by Ryan Stiles. The season finale depicted Leanne's ex-husband confessing that his life is difficult, a moment that Leanne Morgan suggested should not be over-analyzed for signs of reconciliation.
"Bill, he’s always gonna be hanging around," Morgan said in an interview with Decider. "You know, I do think if something catastrophic, God forbid, happened like that in your life and you’d been married to somebody for 30-something years and you’ve got grandbabies and children together, I think they’ve hit it [head on] like, Bill’s always around and is gonna be a part of Leanne’s life because they’re so intertwined for so long. You can’t help it, even if they’re not together."
Despite the ongoing connection with her ex-husband, Morgan expressed her personal hopes for Leanne's storyline, particularly her character's recent period of singlehood. After turning down a proposal from Daly's character, Andrew, Morgan suggested that Leanne should continue dating and enjoying her life as a single woman on screen.
"I hope whatever happens with Bill, if something, if that’s over, honey, I hope Leanne’s still dating," Morgan stated. "In real life, if something — God forbid, if Chuck Morgan left me — I’d be dating, honey. I’ve loved men all my life. And I’m telling you, Tim Daly’s got his own sitcom coming on NBC, but he can still be my boyfriend [on the show]."
Regarding Daly's upcoming sitcom, "Newlyweds," which is set to premiere on NBC in October, Morgan humorously expressed her desire for him to be able to continue his role on "Leanne" if a third season is greenlit.
As of now, Netflix has not officially renewed "Leanne" for a third season. The show's potential for renewal is bolstered by its strong performance in the first season, which reportedly garnered over 1 billion minutes streamed in its initial six weeks. Additionally, the series is considered relatively inexpensive to produce due to its use of fixed sets and a multi-camera format, a factor that could contribute to Netflix's decision to order another season.
Fans eager to see what comes next for Leanne may have to wait for an official announcement from Netflix, with speculation suggesting a decision could be made by the end of the year. Both seasons of "Leanne" are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
