Leaked seating placards for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards show several younger stars and presenters situated in front rows while many veteran actors are assigned seats behind them, according to published images of the arrangement.

The placards place Sydney Sweeney, 27, in a front row position ahead of actors including Harrison Ford, 83, Jude Law, 56, Christopher Meloni, 64, Sarah Paulson, 50, and Sam Rockwell, 56. Sweeney is listed as a presenter and appears alongside nominees Jason Segel, 45, and Javier Bardem, 56, and presenter Catherine Zeta-Jones, 55, in the same row. Selena Gomez, whose series Only Murders in the Building is in contention at the Emmys, is shown seated in front of co-stars Martin Short, 75, and Steve Martin, 80; Short is nominated for best actor in a comedy series. Jake Gyllenhaal is positioned directly behind Gomez in the layout.

Published images also show presenters Jennifer Coolidge and Jenna Ortega and nominee Quinta Brunson seated in the front row ahead of Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Bella Ramsey and Hacks stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder. Several cast members from Severance — including Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette and Tramell Tillman — are listed beside one another. Other placements include Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara and Colman Domingo in front seats, while Paradise star James Marsden is shown seated near Cristin Milioti.

Organizers of awards shows typically say seating is determined by multiple production considerations, including whether a guest will present or is a nominee, proximity needed for stage access and how the room will read on television cameras. A former Golden Globes executive has described seating at televised ceremonies as driven largely by camera range, explaining that the tables or rows closest to the stage are those most visible when the production "does a run of the room." The executive said productions aim to place a mix of well-known names where the camera will capture them.

Show production teams also say they do not know winners at the time charts are made. "Ernst & Young are the accountants that take care of the votes, and they would never, ever let us know something like that! We may guess, but sometimes we're right and sometimes we're wrong. We just try to be even as far as the nominations, and seat the nominees accordingly," the executive said. Organizers have also acknowledged accommodating some requests about who celebrities want — or do not want — to sit near.

Presenters and nominees often receive seating that makes stage access easier, and production companies enforce seating on the night to ensure camera plans and presenter entries proceed as scheduled. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to air Sept. 14 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with comedian Nate Bargatze slated to host. Severance leads this year’s field with 27 nominations, followed by The Studio with 23.

The seating images represent a production layout on file ahead of the ceremony; seating charts can change before showtime and are finalized by the awards’ production team on the night of the event.
