The official cause of death for actor Josh Grisetti, who appeared in the final season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," has been revealed as a gunshot wound, according to California’s Orange County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s office. Grisetti died on July 10 at the age of 44. His death was confirmed as suicide by a friend and fellow Broadway actor, Rob McClure, who shared the news on Instagram.
"It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday," McClure wrote on the social media platform. "I’m not ready to even attempt to understand. My heart is with his wife and family as they try to deal with the reality of this. Communities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you Josh. Just a cataclysmic loss."
Several notable figures, including Ariana DeBose and Rachel Zegler, offered condolences in the comments section of McClure's post.
Just days prior to his passing, Grisetti had withdrawn from the production of "Legally Blonde: The Musical" for "personal reasons." His final Instagram post indicated that his "heart [was] hurting" as he stepped away from his directing duties for the show's opening night.
Grisetti made his Broadway debut in 2015, taking on the role of Marty Kaufman in "It Shoulda Been You." He further solidified his theater career the following year by portraying Nigel Bottom in the musical "Something Rotten!" In 2023, he joined the cast of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" in a recurring role as Ralph Emerson.
Grisetti is survived by his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti, a real estate agent, whom he married in February 2020.
