Jonathan Bailey has announced his withdrawal from the West End production of "Sunday in the Park with George," a decision he attributes to his close friend Ariana Grande pulling out of the show last month. Bailey stated his support for Grande's decision as the primary reason for his own exit.

Grande, who is set to perform her final show in London on September 1 before taking a hiatus from public visibility, had previously confirmed her departure from the musical. Bailey shared his decision on Instagram, expressing his unwavering support for Grande, whom he referred to as one of his "dearest friends."

"Marianne (director) is extraordinary and one of my longest collaborators and friends," Bailey wrote. "After much consideration, I have decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George. This brilliant, introspective musical has been a real passion project for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared in its journey with this team."

Bailey and Grande, who are co-stars in the upcoming film "Wicked," were slated to perform opposite each other in the production at the Barbican Centre next summer. Both roles will now require recasting as theatre officials begin a search for new talent.

A spokesperson for Grande confirmed her intention to step back from public-facing work after concluding her "Eternal Sunshine Tour." The statement indicated a desire for a "much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny." The spokesperson added that the tour has been a "beautiful experience" for her and that she "loves her fans."

Producers for "Sunday in the Park with George," Empire Street Productions, acknowledged Grande's decision. "We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support," a statement read. "We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course."

Jonathan Bailey has announced he has withdrawn from the West End show 'Sunday in the Park' following Ariana Grande's withdrawal.

Grande's public profile has faced increased scrutiny in recent months, particularly after the release of her music video "Petal." Despite assuring fans of her health, her appearance in the video drew commentary.
