Jennifer Lopez arrived at an invite-only screening and Q&A for her new musical film Kiss of the Spider Woman in Los Angeles on Wednesday, drawing a crowd of fans and photographers as awards-season talk surrounds the production.
Lopez, 56, wore a fitted brown blazer and matching trousers paired with a ruffled polka-dot blouse with bell sleeves, and kept her hair sleek and straight. The Harmony Gold Theater event came roughly a month before the Bill Condon-directed film opens nationally on Oct. 10.
Kiss of the Spider Woman has attracted early awards attention since its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, with critics singling out Lopez's performance. The film, which lists Ben Affleck among its producers, centers on the imagined Hollywood alter ego Ingrid Luna, played by Lopez, who is conjured in the cell of a jailed window dresser named Luis Molina, portrayed by Alfredo Castro Tonatiuh. Diego Luna co-stars.
Rehearsals for the production began in February 2024 and principal photography started in New Jersey in April 2024, according to production notes. The project is an updated iteration of the 1993 Broadway musical, itself adapted from Manuel Puig's 1976 novel.
Lopez spoke about the experience in an August interview with Out magazine, saying the shoot was "one of the most beautiful moviemaking experiences I've ever had, and also at a difficult time in my life," and that it "filled a part of me that was waiting to kind of come alive for so long." The film's first official trailer was released Aug. 20, 2024 — the same day Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck.
At the Los Angeles event, Lopez greeted fans outside the theater and was escorted inside by security. Her public appearance follows a busy summer that included the international run of her Up All Night: Live in 2025 tour and ongoing promotional duties for the film.
Lopez has maintained a public profile that includes family activities. In recent days she was seen shopping in Beverly Hills with Affleck's son Samuel and her daughter Emme. Lopez has continued to be a presence in the lives of Affleck's three children from his marriage to Jennifer Garner, a dynamic Affleck described positively in interviews earlier this year.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is scheduled to open in theaters Oct. 10. The film's festival reception and subsequent studio campaign have prompted discussion among awards observers, consistent with other high-profile Sundance standouts that have built momentum between festival premieres and wide release.
Details on the film's wider awards trajectory and box office performance will emerge as distributors roll out campaigns and screenings to critics and industry voters in the coming weeks. For now, Lopez's appearance in Los Angeles highlighted both the star's continuing promotional efforts and the sustained attention on a film that merges musical spectacle with a politically charged narrative set inside a prison cell.
