The Peacock series "The Five Star Weekend," adapted from Elin Hilderbrand's 2023 novel, is drawing attention for the undeniable chemistry between stars Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant. The show, which dropped two weeks ago, follows Hollis Shaw (Garner) as she gathers friends for a weekend on Nantucket. During this time, Hollis confronts grief over her late husband, Matthew, and reconnects with her former flame, Jack (Olyphant).
The romantic tension between Hollis and Jack unfolds over eight episodes, culminating in a kiss in episode five, after their song, "More Than Words" by Extreme, plays. Despite a moment of hesitation from Hollis, who recalls her late husband, Jack remains a supportive presence throughout the weekend. He helps with her daughter and eventually admits he initially doubted Hollis's intentions but found a year-old message that indicated her long-standing feelings for him.
Their dynamic, which leads to a romantic encounter in the season finale, is significantly influenced by the actors' prior working relationship. Series showrunner Bekah Brunstetter noted that Garner was instrumental in casting Olyphant, having previously worked with him on "Catch and Release." According to Brunstetter, Garner sought collaborators she was familiar and comfortable with, and "floated [Olyphant’s] name early on" due to their past experience.
Brunstetter described Olyphant as invested in the material and a generous presence on set. She also praised his ability to embody the romantic lead role, stating that his on-screen presence evokes feelings of past crushes. "It’s like give the people what they want," Brunstetter said of Olyphant's appeal. "Like he steps on screen and you’re just like, ‘Oh Tim,’ and it just gives you butterflies and reminds you of all the boys you’ve ever had crushes on."
"The Five Star Weekend" is currently streaming on Peacock.
