The fashion world is buzzing about the Jelly Firkin, a handbag that has rapidly become a popular dupe for the iconic Hermès Birkin. Priced at $35, this translucent, colorful bag is drawing attention from luxury collectors who find it a compelling alternative to the Birkin, which typically retails for upwards of $13,000 and can reach over a million dollars for rare editions. The scarcity and high cost of the Hermès Birkin, coupled with the brand's exclusive purchasing requirements, have fueled interest in more affordable replicas.

The Jelly Firkin's popularity has surged on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, with fashion magazine Grazia noting it as a must-have accessory. However, its sudden rise in demand has made it difficult to obtain, with the official website currently appearing to be shut down, possibly due to overwhelming demand.

This trend echoes a similar phenomenon in the early 2000s with the Jelly Kelly, a bag inspired by the Hermès Kelly. At that time, Hermès reportedly issued cease and desist letters to retailers selling the dupe, leading to its eventual disappearance from the market. Hermès has a history of pursuing legal action against unauthorized sellers of lookalike products.

Demand for the Jelly Firkin has reached a point where some consumers are resorting to resale sites, paying inflated prices, or purchasing knockoffs from platforms like AliExpress. Influencers have widely embraced the trend. Lifestyle content creator Lauren Wolfe described the Jelly Firkin as her "new summer obsession," while streetwear influencer Cathryn Levitt, who showcases her neon Jelly Firkin on Instagram, found hers for $30 on TikTok Shop. Levitt praised the bag for its lightweight, colorful, and durable qualities, making it suitable for beach days and boat trips.

Despite the popularity of dupes, Levitt also observed a growing interest in vintage, pre-loved Hermès bags among consumers seeking more character. For some, like Birkin fan Natalie Mileo, the Jelly Firkin offers a practical and less stressful alternative. "Some people might be mad because they paid so much for a Birkin, and now there are these cute knockoffs," Mileo told the New York Post. "But I’m like, 'Relax ... I have 10 real Hermès bags. This one, I can actually take to the pool.'"

The Hermès Birkin, long a symbol of wealth carried by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian, has recently been the subject of discussion regarding its current relevance in fashion circles. Online forums and social media threads feature conversations about whether the Birkin and Kelly bags are still considered stylish, with some users noting a decline in their visibility on city streets and a rise in the popularity of other luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
