Jason Dohring, known for his role as Logan Echolls in "Veronica Mars," has stepped away from acting to dedicate himself to regenerative farming. The 44-year-old actor shared on the "Don't Do Nothing" podcast that his interest in gardening began around four years ago, leading him to inform his agents of his intention to "just go farm for a minute."
Dohring has since established three farms, with the most recent being an 11-acre property in Florida where he resides with his wife, Lauren Kutner, and their four children. He relocated to Florida due to the state's abundant rainfall and manure, contrasting it with the water scarcity he experienced farming in California. "L.A. is crazy," Dohring said, referring to the prolonged dry spells in California. "That's when I when we moved to Florida I was like we get infinite rain. We have infinite manure. Like you know you could farm for free."
His farming methods emphasize regenerative agriculture, a process that grows crops without the use of chemicals. Dohring expressed pride in the positive changes he's observed on his farm due to this approach. He recounted an interaction with an experienced farmer who expressed astonishment at his operation, stating, "I've been in agriculture since I was 12. I've never seen anything like this before."
Dohring initially gained recognition for his portrayal of Logan Echolls on "Veronica Mars" from 2004 to 2007. He also appeared in other projects such as "Moonlight" and "The Originals" before reprising his role in the "Veronica Mars" feature film in 2014 and the series' one-season revival in 2019. His most recent acting credit was a four-episode stint on "SEAL Team" in 2021.
While Dohring has temporarily paused his acting career, he indicated a likelihood of returning to it in the future, noting that he has already completed a short film for a friend. "I love art, and when I get around art, even talking about this is exciting to me," he said. "I think there's something in everybody that is aesthetic, meaning beautiful or wants to create."
Dohring married Lauren Kutner in 2004, shortly before "Veronica Mars" premiered. The couple, who met and became friends in high school, have four children: Owen, Lily, Ainsley Mae, and Isla Avery. Dohring described his wife as his "best friend," celebrating their 20th anniversary in July 2024.
