Actor Bailey Chase has stated that a proposed COVID-19 vaccine mandate for children was the "final straw" that prompted him and his family to leave California for North Carolina five years ago. Chase, known for his role in the post-apocalyptic drama "Homestead," explained in an interview with Fox News Digital that the mandate, which would have prevented his children from returning to school without vaccination, led to their relocation.

"They said they couldn't go back to school without it," Chase said. "And that was the final straw. And we've been in the mountains of North Carolina ever since living our best life."

Chase, his wife Amy, and their three children moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina, Amy's hometown. He noted that the move has allowed for a lifestyle more centered around his children's activities, such as soccer and ballet, and that life in North Carolina is more affordable.

At the time of the decision, Chase's children were four, four, and six years old. He expressed concern about the unknown aspects of the mandate, prioritizing his role as a father. "I got one job right now, and it's to take care of these little nuggets. That's the most important job I have right now," he stated.

California Governor Gavin Newsom had announced plans in October 2021 for a vaccine requirement for schoolchildren, but the mandate was repeatedly delayed and ultimately never implemented. State health officials announced in February 2023 that the requirement would not be pursued.

Despite the professional challenges of leaving Hollywood, including missing out on roles due to his geographic distance from Los Angeles, Chase stated that the move has led to new opportunities and a reconnection with his Christian faith. He also expressed pride in "Homestead," describing it as a project that reflects his personal values of faith, family, and community.

"Homestead: The Series" is set to premiere its second season on November 3, with new episodes released weekly on Tuesdays on Angel Studios.
