Orpheus Pledger, a former cast member of the Australian soap Home and Away, was ordered to serve a custodial term after a court found he repeatedly breached the conditions of a community correction order imposed following an assault conviction.
Victoria County Court Judge Michael Tinney imposed a non‑parole term of six months, with 127 days already deducted, after finding Pledger had failed to comply with supervision requirements including unexplained absences and illicit drug use. The judge told the court that Pledger had “frittered away his opportunity on the order.”
Pledger, 32, was originally sentenced in August 2024 to seven months’ jail after attacking a woman on two occasions in March 2024. That sentence was replaced three months later with a two‑year community correction order, which included 150 hours of community work. Court documents showed he completed 30 of those hours before being brought back before the court.
Prosecutors told the court Pledger breached the order with 19 unexplained absences and by using methamphetamine and cannabis. They said he had avoided mandatory drug tests and had reduced his dose of antipsychotic medication without notifying his treating doctor. According to the court papers, he was arrested on June 23 after returning to the woman’s home; the woman called emergency services and Pledger was taken to hospital.
Pledger pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault over the March 2024 incidents. One episode was partly captured by a motion‑activated camera, a recording that shows the attacker dragging the woman by the hair and stomping on her head, court records and media reports said. After the March arrest he was released on bail in late April to undergo a medical assessment amid concerns about his mental health but fled, prompting a police manhunt.
In sentencing on Monday, Judge Tinney noted the breach of the correction order and the missed opportunities to address Pledger’s behaviour under supervision. Defence counsel told the court that Pledger did not fully appreciate the seriousness of his obligations under the order and said his illicit drug use had escalated in recent years.
Pledger began acting as a child and appeared in commercials and the children’s series Silversun before a stint on Neighbours in 2011. He played Mason Morgan on Home and Away from 2016 until 2019. Court documents list his medication and mental health treatment among the matters considered by the court in assessing his compliance and risk.
The sentence marks a return to custody after efforts to manage his offending through community supervision. The court record shows the six‑month non‑parole term accounts for time already served, and Pledger is expected to be remanded to custody to serve the remainder of the term.
