Holly Marie Combs, widely known for her role as Piper Halliwell in the popular series "Charmed," has announced her retirement from acting. The actress revealed her decision on Tuesday's episode of her "House of Halliwell" podcast, stating that the roles offered to her in recent years became "less interesting."

Combs, 52, explained that as she entered the 40 to 50 age range, the available acting roles narrowed and became less compelling. "The stuff that I was getting and coming across my desk was just nothing that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really great. I need to do this,’" she said.

While acknowledging that ageism in Hollywood may have lessened, Combs indicated that the professional landscape no longer presented roles that excited her. She also noted that she stepped back from her acting career to dedicate more time to her three sons—Finley, 22, Riley, 19, and Kelley, 17—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was a lot of family," Combs shared. "During COVID, we had three teenagers. Well, it was three teenagers and a preteen in the house, and it was just mayhem and chaos."

Despite her current focus on her podcast and "15 other businesses," Combs admitted that she occasionally misses the craft of acting. "I miss it occasionally," she confessed. "Because, like you said, there’s those moments when you’re involved and you’re acting and you’re working that are just, I think it’s like being present."

She elaborated on the meditative quality she finds in acting, describing it as a form of escapism where performers can inhabit different characters and situations. "That’s what escapism is. And we get to escape into this different character with a different set of situations than our own life. And there is something about being in that moment that is quite peaceful, even if you’re doing something highly dramatic."

When asked about the possibility of returning to acting, Combs suggested revisiting the question after her youngest son graduates from high school, anticipating more free time then.

Combs began her acting career as a child, earning her Screen Actors Guild card at age 14. Her breakout role was Kimberly Brock in the CBS drama "Picket Fences" from 1992 to 1996. However, it was her portrayal of Piper Halliwell on "Charmed," which aired for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, that established her as a prominent figure in television.

Following "Charmed," Combs took on a recurring role as Ella Montgomery in the popular teen drama "Pretty Little Liars" from 2010 to 2017, introducing her to a new generation of viewers. Her final acting credit to date was a guest appearance on "Grey's Anatomy" in 2019, where she reunited with former "Charmed" co-star Alyssa Milano.
