Helen Mirren, 81, made a dazzling appearance at the London premiere of "MobLand" season two on Thursday night, stepping out in a silver sequined Jenny Packham gown. The event marked a public reunion for the cast of Guy Ritchie’s crime drama, which centers on the Harrigan family and their fixer, Harry Da Souza, portrayed by Tom Hardy.
Merrin, who reprises her role as Maeve Harrigan, appeared unfazed by recent reports of on-set friction involving Hardy. The actor's alleged disagreements with production during filming had led to speculation about his departure from the series. However, Mirren's radiant presence on the red carpet offered no indication of backstage discord.
Pierce Brosnan, who plays Maeve's husband Conrad Harrigan, also attended the premiere, sporting a pinstripe blazer and a spotted shirt. Brosnan and Mirren portray the central power couple of the Harrigan family in the Paramount+ series.
The "MobLand" season two premiere is the first public gathering of the cast since controversy arose regarding Tom Hardy's behavior during filming. Reports have suggested significant tension between Hardy and the production team, with claims that he might be leaving the show. Mirren, however, has publicly defended Hardy, stating that individuals should be "free to f*** up."
Mirren elaborated on her views regarding collaboration in a recent interview, suggesting that each person has a unique working style. She emphasized the importance of allowing everyone the freedom to create, explore, and experiment, even if it involves making mistakes. Mirren noted that she herself has "endlessly" "f**ked up."
Season two of "MobLand" picks up after the events of the first season, with Harry Da Souza navigating dangerous factions and attempting to prevent the Harrigan operation from collapsing. The Harrigan family faces challenges as new rivals emerge to threaten their criminal empire, while Conrad and Maeve Harrigan's own hold on their organization is tested.
Despite the reported creative differences, sources indicate that Hardy and producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser are working to resolve their issues. Season three is slated to begin production in the autumn, with Harry's character reportedly not written out at the conclusion of season two.
