Oscar winner Gary Oldman has stated that the next actor to portray James Bond has already been selected and expressed his desire for the role to go to his "Slow Horses" co-star, Jack Lowden. Oldman shared his thoughts during an appearance on Canada's The Morning Show.
"They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet," Oldman said. "So my fingers are crossed for Jack."
Lowden, a Scottish actor, has been a rumored front-runner for the iconic role, with reports suggesting producers are strongly considering him. Speculation about who will take over from Daniel Craig intensified in May when Amazon MGM Studios announced that auditions were underway, with director Denis Villeneuve and casting director Nina Gold leading the process.
Oldman's comments echo those made by TV presenter Richard Osman. Speaking on the podcast "The Rest Is Entertainment," Osman claimed he had been informed of the likely choice for the new Bond. "The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden," Osman stated, adding that while it's not a confirmed casting, Lowden is "definitely being strongly considered" and would be "amazing."
Osman further described Lowden as having "real Daniel Craig energy," highlighting his versatility. "He is such a brilliant actor. Can be funny, can definitely do action. I mean, I think he’d be sensational," Osman added.
Lowden has previously appeared in films such as Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" and the Apple TV series "Slow Horses." He is also slated to play Mr. Darcy in an upcoming Netflix adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice."
Lowden's wife, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, has previously voiced her support for her husband taking on the 007 role.
