Lickleyhead Castle, an Aberdeenshire property with features reminiscent of "Game of Thrones," has been listed for offers over £1,150,000. The castle served as the childhood home of actress Rose Leslie, who gained international recognition for her role as Ygritte in the HBO series.
Ms. Leslie, who spent the first ten years of her life at the castle, is known for her role in "Game of Thrones," where she met her husband, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow. The couple married in Aberdeenshire in 2018. Before her breakout role in "Game of Thrones," Leslie appeared as Gwen Dawson in "Downton Abbey."
The castle, described as a "Game of Thrones-style castle," retains many of its original features, including spiral staircases, stone fireplaces, suits of armor, wood paneling, and stone walls. The property also includes a Great Hall.
Ms. Leslie's mother, Candy, described Lickleyhead as "a wonderful place to bring up children, lending itself to games of hide-and-seek and sardines using all the nooks and crannies."
The Grade A-listed building, located near Insch in Aberdeenshire, dates back to 1580. It is situated on 11 acres of gardens and woodland and features eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, along with a separate cottage.
Leslie's family, who had owned the castle for centuries, sold it in 2019 for £650,000. Following the sale, the property was converted into a luxury holiday let and events venue.
Since the final season of "Game of Thrones" aired in 2019, Ms. Leslie, 39, has continued her acting career, appearing in projects such as the BBC police drama "Vigil."
