Filming has wrapped on three 30-minute Christmas specials for the series "The Other Bennet Sister," executive producer Jane Tranter announced. The specials, produced by Cardiff-based Bad Wolf, were filmed primarily in Wales over the summer.
The decision to create the Christmas episodes followed the significant success of the show's first season. "These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts," Tranter stated, noting that the audience response to the series had "exceeded even our most optimistic expectations."
The first series, which saw the characters Mary and Tom Hayward agree to marry in its final episode, was filmed in locations across south Wales, including Merthyr Mawr in Bridgend, the Gower peninsula, and areas near Swansea and Brecon. Writer Russell T. Davies, known for his work on "Doctor Who" and "It's a Sin," expressed his eagerness for the specials online.
Fans have shared their excitement, with many commenting on social media that they "can't wait to see Mr and Mrs Hayward on screen." One fan described the series as "like a warm cosy blanket on a snowy winter day."
The upcoming specials are expected to delve into "what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins," according to Tranter. The series garnered attention not only in the UK but also internationally through BritBox North America, achieving 250 million media views across BBC accounts on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
The Christmas specials are slated to premiere during the festive season on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. In the United States and Canada, the specials will be available on BritBox.
