A Southern California family has been reunited with their Cocker Spaniel, Corduroy, seven years after the dog disappeared. Corduroy went missing in 2019 as the family prepared to move from Los Angeles to San Diego, according to LA Animal Services.

The dog's disappearance had been heartbreaking for the family, especially for the young daughter who was Corduroy's "best friend," the organization said in a social media post.

In an unexpected turn of events, Corduroy appeared at LA Animal Services’ North Central Animal Shelter last month. Officials were able to locate the family because Corduroy was microchipped, leading to an emotional reunion.

The family traveled from San Diego to retrieve Corduroy, and the reunion was described as being filled with "hugs, smiles, and happy tears."

LA Animal Services shared before-and-after photos showing a young girl with Corduroy, and then the pair together again seven years later. The agency highlighted Corduroy's story as a reminder of the importance of microchips in reuniting lost pets with their owners, even after extended periods.

Residents of Los Angeles can have their pets microchipped at any of the six LA Animal Services Centers for $15, with no appointment required.
