Actor Edward Furlong, best known for his role as John Connor in 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," is scheduled to appear at the Melbourne Metro Comic Con in Australia on July 18 and 19. Furlong, 48, will be joined by his "Terminator 2" co-star Linda Hamilton, 69, for a reunion at the event held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The announcement was made by event organizers on social media, who highlighted Furlong's iconic performance in the science fiction film. "Back in 1991, he taught a cybernetic assassin how to high-five and then saved humanity, as John Connor in the sci-fi masterpiece Terminator 2: Judgment Day," the organizers stated. They also noted his roles in cult classics such as "American History X," "Detroit Rock City," "Brainscan," and "Pet Sematary II."
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase photos and autographs with Furlong. The event also promises a "bucket-list T2 reunion" with Hamilton, including a guest panel, professional photograph opportunities, and an exclusive meet-and-greet. Other guests scheduled to attend include Michael Ironside of "Total Recall" and Nicholle Tom from "The Nanny."
Furlong's appearance comes after a period of reclusion and personal struggles. After his breakout role as a teenager in "Terminator 2," Furlong experienced a career downturn marked by addiction, legal issues, and substance abuse. He has spoken about his recovery, telling the Daily Mail in 2024 that he had re-launched his career and was sober. "It feels great to be back on set and sober too," he said, adding that working with other sober individuals was a positive experience. In 2022, he underwent a dental procedure to replace teeth that had rotted due to drug abuse.
"Terminator 2: Judgment Day," directed by James Cameron, was a critical and commercial success, praised for its groundbreaking special effects and earning over $520 million worldwide. Furlong, who was 13 when he was cast, became one of Hollywood's emerging young stars following the film's release.
