Ed Sheeran said one of his best mini breaks was a stag weekend at the budget holiday resort Butlin's in Minehead, describing the trip as "f***ing awesome" despite his reported fortune.

The 34-year-old singer, speaking on The 2 Johnnies Podcast, said he attended an Eighties-themed weekender in January for a friend’s stag do, dressed as Wizzard frontman Roy Wood and joined tribute acts including Pearl Scam and Metal Militia. He told the hosts he was "off my nut" during the boozy weekend and enjoyed the resorts' atmosphere so much he planned to return.

Sheeran said the Minehead resort, which is hosting a 1990s-themed weekend featuring Boyzlife, Michelle Gayle and Lisa Maffia alongside tribute bands for Queen and Oasis, offered a dose of nostalgia. Promotional material for the venue lists weekend breaks from as little as £59 per person and highlights on-site activities such as swimming pools, mini golf and a fun fair.

The singer contrasted the relatively sedate Butlin's trip with his own stag do, which he described as a Wolf of Wall Street-themed weekend. He said his friends rented a small prop plane to fly briefly from Stansted, recalled being persistently offered shots and described the event as far more chaotic. "I got married when I was 26 or 27," he said on the podcast, adding that subsequent stag dos he has attended have become progressively calmer.

Sheeran's comments come amid continued public interest in his personal life and living arrangements. Reports circulating about the musician's relocation plans prompted him to post on Instagram earlier this month to "set the record straight." He wrote that he was not permanently moving to the United States but would be "going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I'm touring on" to avoid commuting from London to cities such as San Diego. He also said arranging his base while on tour was not a tax move and that he would "always pay tax in [the] UK 'coz that's where I live.'"

The singer, who has been reported to be worth about £370 million, has an extensive property portfolio estimated at around £70 million and recently purchased a home in New York for about £9 million. Despite his international travel for work and new acquisitions, he spends much of his time at his Suffolk estate, known as Sheeranville, with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughters, Lyra and Jupiter.

On the podcast Sheeran suggested the appeal of events such as Butlin's weekender lay in their nostalgic atmosphere. He mused that a Nineties-themed break would be a natural fit and said he could imagine returning to enjoy similar weekends in future. The Minehead resort's scheduled 1990s weekend is due to take place this weekend, continuing a programme of themed events for nostalgia-seeking holidaymakers.
