The Netflix documentary "A Child of My Own" delves into the complex narrative of a woman who previously faked a pregnancy and kidnapped a baby, exploring her life after her release from prison.

Ale, who was released in 2023 at the age of 39 after serving time since she was 26, initially expressed a desire for a life beyond motherhood. She stated intentions to work and enjoy simple pleasures, questioning her previous focus on becoming a mother primarily to please others. "Now I want to know, what else is out there beyond being a mom?" she is quoted as saying in the film.

Despite her initial aspirations, the documentary reveals that her husband, Arturo, continued to express a strong desire for the couple to have a child. In the film, Arturo explains his wish for a child as a means of continuing their family legacy. "I would indeed like to have a child, not as much as before, but I still have that desire engrained in me," he says.

Filmmaker Alberdi noted the difficulty in observing Arturo's continued pressure on Ale. "It's so painful to see that nothing has changed in these years, and it's a sad ending," Alberdi commented, highlighting that Ale returned to society facing the same pressures she had before her incarceration. The documentary examines the enduring influence of societal expectations on women's roles and desires, even after significant personal upheaval and a long period of rehabilitation.
