Davina McCall has become engaged to celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas after seven years together, her representative confirmed to the BBC on Friday.

The announcement follows months in which the 57-year-old television presenter underwent surgery for a benign brain tumour and later said scans showed the growth was "not coming back." Douglas, who cared for McCall at home after last year's operation, said her recovery had been "a huge journey."

The engagement was first reported by The Sun. McCall and Douglas issued a joint Instagram statement earlier this year describing the results of recent MRI scans and thanking medical teams, friends and family for their support.

According to reports, McCall and Douglas originally met on the set of the reality show Big Brother in the early 2000s when he styled her hair, but they only began a romantic relationship after her divorce from Matthew Robertson was finalised in early 2018. McCall, who has been married twice and has three children, is one of the most familiar faces on British television and is currently presenting the BBC dating series Stranded on Honeymoon Island.

McCall's health scare began in November when a colloid cyst was discovered during a health check-up carried out as part of her menopause advocacy work. She subsequently underwent a craniotomy, an operation in which part of the skull is removed to access and remove the cyst. In a tearful interview earlier this year, McCall described the surgery as "the hardest thing" she had been through.

In April the couple posted jointly on Instagram that post-operative scans had shown the surgery had "got everything out," and they expressed "heartfelt" gratitude to the surgical teams and others involved in her care. Douglas has been publicly acknowledged for providing day-to-day care during McCall's recovery.

McCall's engagement to Douglas marks a personal milestone as she continues to return to public life and work. Her career spans decades of television presenting, and her recent openness about health and menopause issues has drawn public attention to both her professional projects and her recovery from major surgery.
