Daisy Edgar-Jones on Fame: 'Positively Affected So Far'
The actress reflects on her career trajectory, fears over her role in 'Fresh,' and her new adaptation of 'Sense and Sensibility.'
Daisy Edgar-Jones, 28, has shared her perspective on navigating fame, stating that she believes it has only positively impacted her career to date. The British actress, who is set to star in a new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility," spoke with Vogue Spain about her experiences.
Edgar-Jones, whose breakthrough role was Marianne in "Normal People" at age 22, feels she has grown significantly in the six years since. "I think, above all, that I now know how to navigate a profession that at first seemed slightly intimidating to me," she said, attributing some of this to practicing mindfulness.
She noted that colleagues have told her she hasn't changed, a sentiment echoed by her "Sense and Sensibility" co-star Esmé Creed-Miles, with whom she first worked a decade ago. "We have a shared history, which helps a lot," Edgar-Jones remarked, finding it "wonderful" to hear from those who knew her before her rise to prominence.
Following "Normal People," which she described as being by the "Jane Austen of the modern era" in Sally Rooney, Edgar-Jones took on the horror film "Fresh" with Sebastian Stan. She recalled this as potentially her first "real film" and admitted to concerns during filming.
"It's a horror film, but not one to be taken too seriously," she said of "Fresh." "Although, to be honest, while we were filming I did wonder if it could be the end of my entire career."
Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles recently attended the premiere of "Sense and Sensibility" in Leicester Square. The film, based on Austen's novel, follows two sisters navigating societal expectations and romance in 18th-century Britain. Edgar-Jones portrays Elinor Dashwood, the elder sister guided by practicality, while Creed-Miles plays Marianne, who is driven by emotion.
The actresses, who first collaborated on the 2018 film "Pond Life," reunited for this adaptation. The film captures romance, humor, and scenic landscapes, featuring Fiona Shaw alongside Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles.
"Sense and Sensibility" is scheduled for release in the UK on September 25. The story centers on the Dashwood sisters and their mother after they are displaced from their family estate and must adapt to a simpler life in a Devon cottage, encountering new suitors and societal challenges.
