Country singer Drake White and his wife, Alex, said their newborn daughter died just minutes after being born at 29 weeks.
In a joint statement posted on social media, the couple said their daughter, Della Elizabeth White, was born on Aug. 31 and weighed 3 pounds, 3.5 ounces. They said she died "peacefully" about 20 minutes after delivery.
"The Lord has been so near and close to us during this difficult time," the Whites wrote, adding that they were "heartbroken and soul tired, but we know we will get through this difficult time with the strength, peace, and joy that only our Heavenly Father can provide." The statement included passages from Psalms, including "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18) and lines from Psalm 31.
Tributes and messages of support from colleagues and fans followed the announcement. Singer-songwriter Jessie James Decker wrote that she was praying for the family, saying, "No one should ever go through this kind of pain." Fellow country artist Lauren Alaina posted that her "heart aches" for the Whites, and social media influencer Hayley Hubbard said she and others were praying for the family.
Drake and Alex White were married in June 2014. The couple are also parents to a two-year-old son, William. Alex White told People magazine in May that they were expecting a second child after conceiving through in vitro fertilization. She said they underwent a frozen embryo transfer in March and learned they were pregnant 10 days later; the couple had been due in November.
The Whites did not provide additional medical details or information about the circumstances surrounding the premature birth. Their statement emphasized faith and gratitude for support as they cope with their loss.
Loss of a newborn, particularly following a very premature birth, often prompts an outpouring of condolences from peers and fans in the country music community and beyond. Public figures who share private family tragedies frequently cite faith, privacy and support networks as they continue their personal and professional lives.
As the couple continues to grieve, fans and fellow artists have used social media to send messages of sympathy and solidarity. The Whites have not announced public memorial plans for their daughter.
No further statements about medical cause or future steps were released at the time of the announcement.
