Charles Barkley has revealed that he politely declined an invitation to the wedding of pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce.
Barkley, 63, stated on the "Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo" podcast that he generally does not attend weddings or funerals. "I did get an invite, and I politely declined. Because I thought it was gonna be a crap show," he said.
He expressed his fondness for Travis and his brother Jason Kelce but mentioned he has only met Swift once. "I love Travis and Jason [Kelce]. I’ve only met Taylor one time. But yeah, I did get an invite but I said, ‘Hey, that’s just too much,'" Barkley shared. He indicated a preference for spending his free time golfing and relaxing, rather than dressing up for formal events. "I don’t wanna dress up and all that other stuff," he added. "But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special."
Barkley is not the only notable figure who opted out of the celebration. Ryan Seacrest, host of "American Idol," also revealed he could not attend. Seacrest had initially RSVP'd yes but had to cancel due to a work commitment. He was hired by Disney to cover a Fourth of July special on July 3rd and 4th, which conflicted with the wedding date.
"I felt kind of torn about the decision but 'couldn’t have done both' due to the scheduling," Seacrest explained on his radio show. "So, I had to cancel."
Swift and Kelce, both 36, reportedly exchanged vows in front of over 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden last Friday. The ceremony was officiated by comedian Adam Sandler and featured a garden theme. Swift and Kelce reportedly wore Christian Dior Haute Couture, and Swift walked down the aisle to her 2008 song "Love Story." Guests at the reception reportedly received luxury prizes, including designer bags and Cartier watches.
