Singer-songwriter Carly Simon has revealed she has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Simon shared her diagnosis after receiving inquiries about her recent quiet period.
Despite her health condition, Simon announced she has a new album, "Comes In Waves," scheduled for release in August 2026. The first single from the album, titled "Howl," was released last month. The song features the singer offering comfort to a friend experiencing a breakup.
"Howl like the wind, roar like the river / Wail like the rain, cry, shout, and shiver," the lyrics read, accompanied by her distinctive contralto voice. A press release indicated that the album will explore familiar themes such as love, memory, family, self-reckoning, and forgiveness, while embracing contradiction and emotional evolution.
Simon, a prominent figure in the 1970s music scene, was known for her emotionally candid, piano-driven pop songs and detailed character studies. Among her most famous works are the James Bond theme "Nobody Does It Better" and "Legend In Your Own Time." Her song "You're So Vain," famously written about actor Warren Beatty and two other men, was preceded by "Legend In Your Own Time" as a precursor to her more pointed critiques.
In 2003, Simon auctioned the identity of the subject of "You're So Vain" for $50,000, with the condition that the winner maintain the secret. Simon also disclosed that she has been treated for skin cancer but remains committed to her singing career.
